I already have an About meĀ page. So I decided to create a post on my country. Below is a poem I wrote that describes the unique geography, history and culture of India.
The Country Heart
India, my homeland, my motherland,
Her feet tread on the sea waves and sand,
Crowned with the Himalayan mountains,
Expands from Gujarat coasts to the Eastern rains.
From Kashmir to Indira point.
She, the great Mother to the great warriors, Kings and queens,
History tells the tale of holy monuments and ancient ruins,
Great rulers from great king Ashoka and Chandragupta,
To the Mughals, the British and the Maratha.
Great wars and struggles, the great Freedom Struggle
Rich in history, holy in culture,
Great many religions and tribes, boundaries are a blur.
Diversity is her name and fame.
Diwali, Holi, Id, Christmas,…,all’s the same
‘Unity in Diversity’, that’s pride in our country’s Heart.
For some reason every word is capitalized. I loved your poem and learning more about your country. I would love to hear more of your thoughts on your last line, “Unity in Diversity’, that’s pride in our country’s heart. I look forward to reading more of your writing! I used to teach but am not an administrator at my school in Baltimore, Maryland.
Good day,
I am glad you liked the post.’Unity in Diversity’ is a term coined by our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. I love that line because it encompasses the vast multitude of various ethnic groups and religions living in the country. I feel that this is the greatness of India’s democracy and something to be proud of.

I have noticed that when comments are typed, words automatically get capitalized. I haven’t figured out the reason but I would like to assure you that even if it is uppercase when typed, it is made alright automatically. So the comment will be displayed normally. I would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Rajyashori
What a beautiful poem, Rajyashoril!
I ‘m reading at the same time the life of mother Teresa of Calcutta and the story of the Grameen Bank, so I’ve been navigating along this “great Mother” through the magic of books.
Portuguese navigators once arrived with their merchandises to make commerce and bring back to Europe the precious spices.
Our first captain to discover the way to India by sea was Vasco da Gama; he was 28 years old, and arrived at Calicut, in the coast of Malabar, on the 20th May 1498, about one year after leaving Lisbon.
India is , in a certain way, as a mother to all civilizations, as the roots of the oldest myths and most powerful legends lay in this holly Land.

Ms Ines,
Thanks for appreciating this post. I am also glad learning about your interest in India. Besides, your comment has been very informative.
In fact, we all owe a lot to Vasco Da Gama who discovered an ocean route to India through the Atlantic, thereby connecting the Europe and the Orient. I believe that his success on this mission paved the way for future conquests.
I look forward to hearing from you again. I especially like your genuine interest in the post and would love to hear more.
Best regards,
Rajyashori
Rajyashori,
Thank you. Your poem is beautiful & shows love of the land.
Reading your poem reminded me of both Indian National Anthems:
Vandemataram by Bankimchandra Chatteraji https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpjHd1R5JXo
and Jan Gan Man by Rabindranath Tagore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZxL3Dah87A
Keep writing and sharing your gift.
